A little planning helps the work start smoothly, keeps the site safer, and protects the finished result.
Preparation checklist
Your final scheduling notes and proposal take priority; this guide helps you know what to expect.
Remove personal items, electronics, linens, and fragile belongings. Agree who moves and resets furniture, handles disassembly, removes and disposes of old flooring, and coordinates appliance or plumbing work. Identify heavy and connected items early.
Keep entrances, halls, stairs, elevators, and work routes open. Share parking, keys or codes, building rules, work hours, and a day-of contact. Arrange a separate safe space for children and pets away from tools, materials, dust, and adhesives.
Report leaks, known damage, old flooring, and adhesive. Do not disturb unidentified older vinyl or glue before evaluation. Confirm which layers may remain and how concealed problems discovered during removal will be documented, priced, and approved.
Follow the exact product's storage, temperature, humidity, and any adjustment-period instructions. Keep the required conditions before, during, and after installation, including around heated floors or strong sunlight; there is no category-wide waiting period.
Confirm cabinet and island sequencing, appliance access, finished height, and responsibility for door or trim adjustments. Arrange furniture delivery and room access around any adhesive cure, foot-traffic, or rolling-load restrictions.
