Can glue-down LVP be installed directly over a concrete slab?
It can when the concrete is clean, dry, sound, smooth, within the flooring and adhesive moisture limits, and otherwise suitable for the selected system. Patching, grinding, leveling, priming, or moisture control may be required first.
Why is floor flatness important for glue-down luxury vinyl?
Glue-down LVP closely follows the surface beneath it. Ridges, low areas, cracks, adhesive residue, and other irregularities can affect appearance, bonding, and long-term performance, so the substrate may need patching, grinding, skim coating, or leveling first.
Does every concrete floor need self-leveling underlayment?
No. Preparation should match the actual slab and the flooring manufacturer's requirements. Some floors need only localized patching or a skim coat, while others have larger variations that require a compatible self-leveling product.
Does a concrete slab need moisture testing before glue-down LVP?
Often, and the selected flooring or adhesive manufacturer may require it. Concrete moisture conditions should be evaluated using the specified method before the installation system is finalized. The appropriate testing, primer, moisture-control system, and preparation depend on the slab, site conditions, and manufacturer instructions.
How soon can flooring be installed after a leveling product is poured?
Drying time varies with the leveling product, application depth, temperature, humidity, substrate, and flooring system. Installation should begin only after the applicable manufacturer requirements have been met.
