A little planning helps the work start smoothly, keeps the site safer, and protects the finished result.
Preparation checklist
Your final scheduling notes and proposal take priority; this guide helps you know what to expect.
Confirm tile, finish, shade range, pattern, joint width, grout, trim and any features before work begins. Inspect delivered material and raise appearance concerns before it is installed. Confirm the order allowance and matching spare material.
Remove belongings and fragile items. Agree on furniture, appliance or fixture disconnection and resetting, removal, disposal and protection of adjoining finishes. Share leaks, movement, old adhesive and previous repairs; confirm how hidden conditions and additional work will be approved.
Keep entrances, hallways and work routes open. Confirm material storage, water access, cutting space, dust protection, parking, keys or codes, building rules, permitted hours and a day-of contact. Large pieces may need special lifting, transport and cutting equipment. Keep children and pets outside the work zone.
Confirm who handles plumbing, electrical work, heating, glass, fixtures and structural repairs, and when each task occurs. Heating and concealed systems may need testing before covering. Maintain the room conditions required by the setting and preparation products.
Setting, grouting, sealing where specified, walking, furniture placement, cleaning, heating startup and shower use can have different waiting periods. Obtain job-specific instructions, plan temporary room access and protect the floor from follow-on trades. Rapid-setting materials do not eliminate every cure restriction; heat must not be used to rush drying.
