Core project elements
Final scope depends on the material, site conditions, and proposal, but these are the central parts of the work. None of the listed systems or supporting services is automatically included in every job.
Review ceramic, stone, glass, metal or mixed components, their backings and approved heat and moisture exposure. A stainless look does not establish stainless construction. Mixed mosaics need compatible setting, cutting and grout choices for every component.
Review wall support, condition and flatness for the chosen system. Larger glass pieces place added demands on preparation, handling and cutting. The mortar and wall behind translucent glass can influence its apparent color.
Balance cuts and joint lines around cabinets, windows, corners, outlets and the range. Confirm focal points, sheet boundaries, directional finishes and edges before setting. Brushed metal grain should follow the agreed layout; variation in glass and stone should match the approved range.
Use setting materials approved for the exact body and backing. Control coverage and sheet spacing so mesh-backed glass does not show obvious sheet outlines or inconsistent backing. Confirm stone thickness and fill, glass transparency and cut edges, and protection of metal coatings.
Use the selected grout and flexible joints where required. Check scratch-sensitive surfaces and mixed materials for grout and pre-treatment compatibility before completing the field.
Coordinate trim, outside corners, outlet cuts and terminations with the tile thickness and appearance. Specialty material may need its own cutting and edge treatment; a field tile does not guarantee matching trim exists.
Your proposal defines the scope
We'll review visible conditions and document the agreed work. Hidden or changed conditions are handled separately instead of being silently assumed.
Review the approved layout, sheet boundaries, corners, outlet cuts, grain direction where relevant, grout and exposed edges under the room's lighting. Confirm appliance and device resetting responsibilities, the return-to-use instructions and matching spare material. For any wet-area application, confirm its separate system requirements before treating backsplash guidance as sufficient.
