A floor receptacle beside the kitchen island in this Colchester home left a cutout in the engineered hardwood that stayed visible because the island did not cover it. After an electrician removed the receptacle, the flooring problem remained: engineered hardwood is installed in fixed courses, and a cutout interrupts the pattern with a hole that has no matching board to fill it.
Two repair paths were on the table. A smaller patch with filler around its edges would have been the quicker fix, but a filler edge outlines the repair in a way the eye keeps finding. The homeowner instead chose the more involved full-board repair — carefully cutting out the complete board containing the former opening and fitting one replacement board, secured with adhesive, in the center of the finished kitchen floor.
The repair only works with the right material on hand: the homeowner supplied leftover matching engineered hardwood from the original installation. Without retained matching material, a blend-in repair usually isn't possible — the brand and species were not documented here.
