The problem
This Newington project replaced the existing carpet in two bedrooms and on the stairs. Stairs usually wear out their carpet long before bedrooms do — every step lands on the same narrow strip of treads, so the pile mats and the padding beneath compresses faster than it does under bedroom furniture and foot traffic. Once that happens on the stairs, the bedrooms rarely look fresh either.
Keeping the same carpet across the bedrooms and stairs also solves a practical problem: color continuity. We installed NRF SP4000 Sandy Beach with new carpet pad across about 690 square feet, moving the furniture and removing and disposing of the old carpet as part of the scope. One material run means no mismatched dye lots between the rooms and the stairs.
The stairs were finished in the waterfall style, where the carpet follows across each tread and drops toward the next riser for a smooth, continuous look. Coordinating the bedrooms and stairs in one visit kept the installation consistent and avoided a second round of furniture moving and disruption.
