The problem
This Colchester basement needed two kinds of flooring at once: comfortable carpet across the finished living areas and both staircases, and a dedicated surface for the home gym. The crew removed and disposed of 866 square feet of old carpet first. Rubber gym flooring takes a different kind of abuse than carpet — dropped weights, shifted equipment, and constant foot traffic — so the gym got 405 square feet of Advanced Edge Sports Flooring AE400 interlocking rubber tiles in Back in Black, fitted to the planned room edges.
The stairs added their own challenge: 27 steps across two staircases — 13 basement stairs and 14 main stairs — all carpeted in the waterfall style, where the carpet flows over each step nose and down the riser in one continuous piece. New Madoc carpet in Coracle went down with new pad throughout the carpeted scope, and the crew moved and worked around the gym equipment as the installation progressed.
Everything was coordinated as the flooring portion of a larger restoration-company project while other renovation work continued. The verified finish work — 40 linear feet of tack strip, 25 linear feet of vinyl transition, metal details, and 30 linear feet of baseboard removed and reset — was completed in the same single visit, so the full flooring scope was done in one workday.

In August 2026, Floors Now completed the flooring portion of a Colchester basement restoration in one workday and one visit. The crew removed and disposed of 866 square feet of old carpet, installed Madoc carpet in the official Coracle color with new pad throughout the planned basement areas, and carpeted both staircases in the waterfall style for a total of 27 stairs. The supplied carpet-and-pad quantities were 654 square feet for the basement and basement staircase plus 120 square feet for the main staircase; those figures include cuts and waste. The verified finish work included 40 linear feet of tack strip, 25 linear feet of vinyl transition, 3 linear feet of flat silver metal, 3 linear feet of pin metal, and removal and reset of 30 linear feet of baseboard. In the gym, the team installed 405 square feet of Advanced Edge Sports Flooring AE400 interlocking rubber tiles in the official Back in Black color, also including cuts and waste. The tiles were interlocked without adhesive over the older underlayment already in place; no new underlayment or patching was installed. The installers moved and worked around gym equipment as the one-visit installation progressed.
